Before you perfunctorily send us a CV, we would like to tell you a little bit about how we recruit and why. We are extremely careful when it comes to recruitment.

We would like to think that we are a little more careful than others in the industry when it comes to finding just the right employees. To do so, there are a few steps we go through before each recruitment and there are also quite a few applicants. Our more popular ads can generate hundreds of applications. For that reason, and because we want to continue to be the company we are (more about it a little further down), we want to give you some advice before you send us your application.
If you are not interested in the advice, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll find the positions we want to fill right now.
How to maximize your chances
To begin with, we will never try to trick you or get you caught in a trap. We are aware that tricks like that are sometimes pulled during job interviews, but there is no such element with us. You can always be sure that we mean what we say in the entire recruitment process. It is important for us that you know that.
Step 1. CV and Cover Letter
The first step is always the CV and the cover letter. Since we receive a lot of applications, we need to have a systematic approach in how we receive and handle the applications. Unfortunately, technical details play a role here. We will of course read all the emails we receive, but if you want to maximize your chances to be called to an interview, there are a few things you need to consider.
Correct Email Address
Make sure that your email is sent to the correct address, because we want to receive the application by email. Job@brath.se is the correct address.
Specify which position you’re applying for
Make sure that you specify in the subject line which job you are applying for. Not doing so sometimes creates problems and means that we have to try to sort the applications after receiving them. Unfortunately, that means your application might not end up where it’s supposed to go.
Make sure that we can open your documents
Consider the file format of your CV and cover letter. We cannot open every file format (well, we can try, but may not succeed within a reasonable time). If you want to make it as easy as possible for us to read your CV, then make sure to send it as a PDF.
If you get these three points right, you already have a small advantage. We don’t have any rules for the content of your application; just make sure that it shows us who you are, and everything will be fine.
Step 2. Online test
Every applicant who is selected for the first round in the recruitment process will have to do a written test. Each position has its own test that is adapted for that position, and the tests can contain a few different types of questions. A more technical position may have knowledge related questions, a management role may have questions of a more personal nature. Often there is no right or wrong answer (except in the knowledge tests, but it is usually the reasoning we’re interested in rather than the answer). When it comes to the knowledge test, we are trying to assess your level of online knowledge. It is not like a test in school, it is ok to google the answers if you are able to. However, we would like to know how you reached the answer, and if you do not tell us that voluntarily, we may want to ask more questions.
In our character-assessment tests the focus is on how well we think that you will fit in to our work environment. The environment at Brath is a bit special and it is not certain that everyone will feel comfortable with it. However, some people will feel very comfortable, and those are the ones we want to find. Therefore, try to be as open and honest as you can in your answers. There is no right and wrong answer here, but think of it like flirting – we are trying to see if we are a good fit.
Step 3. Two interviews
We will always carry out at least two interviews with you if you progress from the first phase. One with your closest manager and probably some other manager in the company, and another with one or a few employees. The purpose is for you to be able to ask us about everything you want to know, and for us to get a deeper understanding of what kind of person you are.
The interviews we do are so-called structured interviews. That means that they have a number of different sections, where one topic per section is discussed. Sometimes we talk about practical examples from your previous jobs, and sometimes about other situations from your background. We try to keep things as light hearted as possible and we try not to be the kind of company that makes decisions based on our gut feeling. There are business leaders who claim they can understand a candidate based on his/her handshake; we are not that type of business leaders. Your handshake, if you are nervous or not, or anything like that, will not make any difference to us. We are actively striving to minimize the impact of such factors.
As mentioned earlier, we never try to bust you. In these interviews we want to talk about you and things you have done in the past. Brutal honesty from your side gives you a big advantage over the candidates who respond with cliché answers. If we ask you what your weaknesses are (although us asking that is not very likely), the ‘I work too hard and am too goal-oriented’ response will not give you any advantages. We are honest with you, we want to show our true self and you will get all the advantages by doing the same.
The best thing you can do before the interview is to prepare yourself. Read about us and consider carefully what type of person you are at your workplace. How do others see you, what do you get done, what do you like and dislike in a workplace?
Step 4. References
The last step before we sign a contract is always to check your references. Also in this stage we try to ask questions like: is he/she more of this kind of person or more of that kind of person. Thus, we will not ask questions like, is Olle a good guy. If everything seems okay, it is time to sign the contract, and at that point there is not much to prepare for.
Why are we spending this much time?
It is difficult to recruit; it is for everyone, no matter what they say. It is also the case that most recruitment models that are available today only make a small impact on the results. We are constantly trying to get better at this, because we are convinced that it is our staff that allows us to stand out among our competitors. We want to be better at recruiting, because we want to continue to have better employees, who both are doing better, and like it better. We are convinced that this is the way to continue being a leader in the industry.
Do not think that 6 hours means things are slow
If you’ve come this far, there is one detail you need to remember. The fact that we work 6-hour days does not mean that we are taking it slower than other companies. It probably means the opposite. If you are looking for a job where you can slow down, Brath will not work out for you. We use probationary periods and during those we seriously try to find out if we fit together. One detail we noticed is that a lot of employees are surprised to find out that we are not satisfied with mediocre results.
It is easy to believe that we close at four o’clock and go home no matter what. We’ve become somewhat famous for our working hours. A reason for our short working days is that those who work with us prioritise solving their task and do not settle before it is solved. It may, as in all other workplaces, mean that you need to stay longer. Or work faster. If you intend to apply for a job in order to be able to unwind, it is better that you don’t. You will not get through the process described above and even if you would, you would be unhappy once you got started.
