AI Mode has launched in Sweden

Petra Svennerskog

Last week, on October 8, Google finally rolled out AI Mode in Sweden – and we’ve been waiting for this moment! It’s been quite a while since Google’s AI-powered search engine was launched in the U.S., and Sweden was among the last countries to get a taste of it. But what exactly is AI Mode, and what does it mean for you? Let’s start from the beginning.

What is AI Mode?

AI Mode is Google’s AI search engine. You could think of it as their answer to ChatGPT, but focused on search itself. In addition to asking whatever’s on your mind, you can also continue your research through follow-up questions and external links to keep exploring the web. For convenience, you can even choose to talk to the AI, take a photo, or upload an image – perfect for when you don’t feel like typing.

How to access it

So, how do you actually find AI Mode? It appears as one of Google’s tabs:

Find AI Mode

When you select AI Mode, the Google search you’ve made will be answered directly by the AI. Just like in AI Overviews, sources are presented on the right-hand side.

What AI Mode looks like

Speaking of AI Overviews, a link to AI Mode has also started to appear there:

Navigate to AI Mode from the SERP

If you have follow-up questions or want to dig deeper, you can simply click through and continue the conversation in AI Mode.

Don’t see AI Mode yet?

Even though AI Mode has been launched in Sweden, not everyone has access yet. That’s because large updates usually take some time to roll out. But hang tight – it’ll likely show up for you soon enough.

What do we think about AI Mode?

For now, we’re not in love with AI Mode. At this point, it lacks what’s supposed to set it apart from AI Overviews or ChatGPT – namely, Google Shopping Graph. This feature allows Google to understand and organize product information from across the web. That means it can display details like prices, availability, and reviews directly within the AI Mode search results, helping users make informed decisions.

Hopefully, this feature will appear soon – perhaps it’s just part of the gradual rollout process.
