Can you build your business on traffic from Google?

Magnus Bråth

You’re not the only one who has asked yourself this question when looking at where your visitors come from. Google seems to drive free traffic to your site — and that traffic often converts better than your other channels. Can you use that to grow your business?

SEO is no longer an unknown concept, but when I first started in the industry it wasn’t widely recognized. The idea that you could climb to the top of profitable keywords by working on your site and its links wasn’t common knowledge back then. Today, as you’ve surely noticed, many more people are working with SEO. Of course, there are varying levels of knowledge and experience, but the industry exists — and it’s growing. The reason it’s growing is that those who work with search engine optimization can increase revenues very cost-effectively for anyone selling online in one way or another.

A long list of successful online giants have built large parts of their business on search. Tripadvisor, Expedia (Hotels.com), Evolution Gaming — to name a Swedish example — and many more use search results as the backbone when scaling up. A steady stream of inexpensive revenue is a fantastic platform to stand on, even if you don’t want to be completely dependent on Google.

In the video, I talk about a small business, one with a very personal connection to me, and how we made it profitable. It’s three quick minutes of information on how a farmer became an e-commerce entrepreneur, and I think it might give you a slightly different perspective on SEO.

Without a doubt, it’s possible to build a business on SEO — and once you’ve nailed your organic results, then you can move on to the next channel.
