Compare your numbers with competitors – directly in GA4!

Caroline Danielsson

In SEO, it is an essential part to ensure we are constantly climbing. It also gives us the opportunity to gauge the overall industry – it might seem like growth is slow, but if the entire industry is affected by a recession, suddenly that slow growth becomes a solid win!

What has been difficult with benchmarking against competitors is that we don’t have their data. We can make assumptions, but we rarely have the amount of information we would like. Analytics tries to quench our thirst for more data!

Benchmarking Rolls Out in GA4

In August, the Google Analytics team announced that soon their customers would be able to compare their data against their competitors. You will be able to get information about how your numbers compare to others.

Everything will, of course, be fully anonymized, so you won’t get exact numbers or site names. But you will be able to see if your numbers are in line with the rest of the industry. If you choose to use benchmarking, your data will also be anonymized and can be shown to competitors.

The data will be updated every 24 hours and will show, for example, trend lines and the median for the industry. You will receive benchmarks for: acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization.

Make the right settings in Analytics now

This is still being rolled out, so we don’t have all the details. We can’t show examples of how it looks yet, but we’ll update this post as soon as we can!

But in the meantime, you can already ensure that your account is set up to compare.

To be able to see these numbers, you need to make the right settings in Analytics:

For Swedish Analytics:

Administrator > Account Settings > Check the box “Contribution to modeling and business insights”

For English Analytics:

Admin > Account Settings > Check the box “Modeling contributions & business insights”

When we know more – you’ll know more!

Have a great weekend!
