When we sat down with the first edition of Guldläge på nätet, we envisioned it as a handbook that we could hand out to friends and family — a simple entry point into SEO for those looking to get started. My co-author, Michael Wahlgren, founder of one of our toughest competitors, Pineberry, and I wanted to raise awareness of SEO in general. We saw that many were stumbling in the dark and risked going off track, both by missing the basics in their own work and by purchasing some strange or even dangerous services.

It’s been 15 years since Michael and I met and built an SEO delivery that would fix everything that seemed to have gone wrong in the Swedish industry before. We may never have changed the entire SEO industry, but I’m convinced we’ve had some impact, and Guldläge på nätet is one of the better contributions we’ve made. A book like this isn’t something you get rich from; I believe I can still count the royalties in a few thousand kronor, but as an opportunity to make an impact, I don’t think I’ve made a better contribution to the SEO industry. My guess is that we’re approaching ten thousand copies sold, plus all the borrowings from libraries (it’s available in plenty of libraries if you’d like to borrow it). For a book on something as niche as SEO, it feels overwhelming to me.
Is the fourth edition different from the previous ones?
There’s quite a bit of new content in the book. Since the third edition, we’ve added sections on EAT and organic shopping. In addition to the new chapters, there are many small corrections, from how to click on a search result to the existence of voice search. In short, if you have the third edition, you’ll recognize a lot, but there are updates based on how Google or search behavior has changed. As always, the goal has been to provide an easy entry point into SEO that anyone can understand. The book is still not very long and something you can read in one evening. We always make sure to explain things so that everyone can understand.
