There is a lack of search engine consultants

The industry is growing by 20% per year, and there is a huge shortage of skilled search engine consultants.

This morning, it was reported that bankruptcies are increasing in the country, especially within information and communication. However, in search engine optimization, companies are crying out for competent staff. We have rapidly expanded ourselves, and it’s no different with our competitors, even though they may not be growing at the same pace as we are.

How do you become an SEO consultant?

Unfortunately, there are no education programs that go very far in this field, which means that almost all companies in the industry train their employees themselves to a large extent. We estimate 1-2 years of internal training and more junior tasks before you can take on responsibilities as an SEO consultant. If you want to step into such a role, several years of practical experience are required.

A good place to start looking is the #svSEO group on Facebook. Job postings in the industry are regularly shared and collected here.

What’s next year looking like?

Based on my personal knowledge of the industry, my estimation is that there will be a shortage of 40-50 more senior SEO consultants in Sweden next year. Some companies are already struggling to recruit competent staff with 3-4 years of experience. On the junior side, it’s easier as there is at least a flow of new candidates.
