Microformats. Structured data. Schema.org. All of these are terms that are frequently used by SEO specialists and clients today. But what do they actually mean, and what are they used for?

You’ve probably seen small rating stars underneath certain titles in the search results, or noticed that Google already tells you what a product will cost before you even click through to an e-commerce site. When you search Google for recipes, an image of the finished dish sometimes appears directly in the search results. All of these things—and more—are the result of those websites using some form of structured data markup. In today’s episode, we talk about how you can use this on your own website, the benefits of doing so, what it actually does not do, and how you should go about getting those nice-looking stars to appear next to your site.
