Sistrix - Tool for SEO

Magnus Bråth

Sistrix is an excellent tool for those who want a quick overview. It’s so good that it has managed to convince this tool-skeptical SEO specialist that it’s actually an SEO tool worth using.

Recently, I’ve personally started using Sistrix almost daily. I mainly use it to find keyword ideas and compare against competitors, but there are many other use cases as well. I thought I’d list a few things I often do with Sistrix. There are many more features, but these are my favorites.

Visibility index and Interesting rankings

As always, I’m cautious about taking these things at face value, but as a source of ideas, it’s an interesting little tool. Sistrix recently acquired SEOlytics and has, if I understand correctly, integrated their data.

For a quick comparison with competitors and to find what they are visible for that you might not have considered, these two features are more than enough. Here, you can get ideas, see where competitors have focused their efforts, and perhaps build content that matches. At Brath, we actively work with this ongoing, and Sistrix is a great helping hand.

Keywords Ideas

For a deeper dive into the same topic, it might be worth spending time using the Keyword Ideas feature on your own and on competitors’ sites. A fair amount of manual filtering is required— for example, “40-hour workweek” in countless variations is suggested for Brath, and we know how inaccurate that can be. However, the tool is still useful as it provides much more than Google’s own tools.

SEM-Tools

Unfortunately, I don’t feel that the SEM tools are of the same caliber as those that came from SEOlytics. While it is possible to extract ad copy and keywords from competitors in a similar way, it’s far from a complete set of ads. For our own Brath.se, for example, I can only retrieve a handful of keywords.

IP Numbers

As a final point, I’d like to mention another issue with Sistrix, and that is that it doesn’t seem to treat Swedish IP numbers when displaying Swedish search results, at least not fully. The positions shown seem to more closely match a foreign search in Swedish on Google.se.

Summary Review of Sistrix

I really liked SEOlytics when they were both competitors. Now, I’ve slowly but surely come to appreciate Sistrix and believe it’s a tool worth using, despite the issues I mentioned. If you want to try it for yourself, you can find the tool here.
